Moving AI from Widening the Strategy-Execution Gap to Building the Bridge Across It

Healthcare Practice Lead AK Singh talks through the pitfalls of AI implementation and how to avoid them through business strategy.
Many companies view AI as The Answer. We've seen incorrect tool selection, implementation and integration actually widen the Strategy-Execution Gap. By marrying business strategy and advanced technology, however, companies can and do succeed.
First Line Strategy exists to close the Strategy-Execution Gap: the space between what leadership decides and what ends up happening inside an organization.
AI is now one of the fastest-growing places that gap opens up, not because organizations pick or develop the wrong tools, but because, in this dynamic landscape, tools often get disconnected from the business need or process. This happens because requirements weren’t clearly defined at the outset, existing business processes weren’t fully understood, and/or AI was implemented vs. Integrated. After a tool goes live, adoption is suboptimal. The heavy investment and lack of an immediate ROI erodes trust and stalls progress.
All these are not technology problems. These are strategy and execution problems. Problems we at FLS love to help with.

The five steps in First Line Strategy's Clarity EngineTM enable our team to answer key questions around your AI plan:
Assessment: What are the strategic goals and core business processes, and where could AI best serve the organization? Where is AI being used ad-hoc today? What can be harmonized or replaced?
Strategy & Alignment: What is AI for, at the enterprise level? Are the business cases clearly articulated? Are leaders aligned on the business case(s)?
Prioritization & Commitments: What are the business requirements for an AI tool? Sequencing across processes? Financial constraints? What ROI is expected and worth the investment?
Operational & Behavior Change: How can we generate or increase adoption? How can we integrate AI into existing workflows? How can we upskill our workforce in order to enable them to do higher level, more valuable work? What structural and process changes need to take place?
Reinforcement: How is adoption measured and sustained past initial rollout? What short-term and long-term KPIs will ensure the business intention is achieved?
